Burroughs Dry Group

This group picked a name which I cannot put in the title line because I would be breaking the Blog's "terms of service," so I hope they will recognize themselves by the title of their book...lol.

This group will meet on Wednesday April 4th at the Duboce Park Cafe at 6:30 sharp. They will be discussing Dry by Augustine Burroughs. I hope you will use this Post as a place to keep in touch with each other and me.

It just looks like you are thinking, and that's a good thing in a book club...lol.

So I'm about half way through DRY. Hopefully I'll still remember what it was about by April... Anyway, Denise mentioned at the last meeting about possibly getting together to watch the movie. Anyone up for that?

As you can tell from Book Savvy, I love movie tie-ins. Count me in.

I messed up with the movie, I think there's only a movie for "Running With Scissors".

Anyway, my main point for this post is that I am greatly distressed over the DRY title. I'm worried people might get the wrong idea, so I think the group should hurry and pick another name--QUICK. I don't want word to get around on the street. I 'ain't' no antique. LOL

I do think it would be a great idea for this group to pick a "publishable" name for themselves. Keep me posted.

Sense talking to yourself is the greatest form of affirmation, here it goes.
So I'm in the process of DRY (It's important to note this is the book we chose, not a way I'm describing myself--just to clarify, erhmm!)
I'm at the part where he's about to leave the rehab center and is playing ping pong with Hayden.
Page 93, paragraphs 2-4 the two guys are talking about being "institutionalized" the "outside".

"I'm afraid I won't fit in on the outside anymore"-Augusten
"Fuck!", he shouts I know exactly what you mean, I never want to leave here."
"On the outside, people will call me on my bullshitt." --Augusten

There is a lot of emphasis on the I, Me and the inferred Them.
I know what they're talking about, but after I ifnished the page I had to rered and question if in fact there wasn't a bigger picture Burroughs is giving us to digest.

Maybe "Inside" is a term Burroughs is assigning to The Self, the personal, the individual.
Setting aside the idea that they're literally in a rehab center and getting ready to be inserted back into what's 'normal society' , perhaps Burroughs is showing the struggle of relation? People leaving their seclusion of themself and venturing into the outside which would then be Others?
